Tuesday night and Wednesday I spent time in Washington, DC on Capital Hill with the Southeastern Council of Foundations and the Council on Foundations for their meetings and events with Senators and Representatives to the House as they met and shared what is happening in the world of philanthropy in their respective states as well as hoping to share ideas on how Washington can partner with individual foundations to improve on the good works that are already being done around the country.
Tuesday night SECF held a reception and dinner at the Occidental Restaurant. Their guest speaker was Representative John Lewis from Geogia. He serves as the Chair of the Oversight Subcommittee for the House Ways and Means Committee.
He told some wonderful stories about growing up in rural Georgia alongside Martin Luther King, Jr.

Wednesday I was up bright and early to run back and forth from the House side of the Captial to the Sentate. Although some of the foundation members were not able to see their Congressional members directly, a few did and here are just some of the photo-ops.
The South Carolina group with Senator Lindsey Graham.
The Virginia group with Eric Cantor who serves as the House Chief Minority Whip.
Here again are some of the South Carolina foundations with James Clyburn the House Majority Whip.
The other really nice thing that I got to do while in DC was to have dinner with Stephanie Davies, one of my April brides!!! She and her fiance Joe live in the DC area and it was so great to see her one more time before the wedding!!
